After winning World War I, the United States entered an era of extravagance, glamor and style. It was in the 1920’s the economy began to grow exponentially in this country and people danced to American tunes. Mass consumption was born with electrification, airplanes, radio and many household necessities that were previously considered a luxury and that began to be a necessity. Alcohol was banned and with this news the gangsters grew, who with outfits that attracted attention, were creating a style that many wanted to follow and desired to disobey the rules.

At this time, there was also the ‘new independence of women’ starting with their right to vote; jazz music as trending and the ‘art deco’ began to reverberate in the community. Glamor and beauty were protagonists with the changes that were experienced in the “crazy 20’s”.

ABOUT THE HISTORIC ALFRED I. DUPONT BUILDING

Completed in 1939, the Alfred I Dupont building was built as a symbol of the end of the Great Depression. It is the only Art Deco skyscraper in Miami, and its mezzanine level, which was once the headquarters of the Florida National Bank, is now a prestigious space for special events and is capable of hosting intimate and large affairs.
